Simple Obedience + Love = Evangelism

Lives will be changed when we simple obey Jesus and love people. Our God is so amazing that ordinary things like hot dogs and hamburgers will be used by Him to transform lives as we step out in obedience and love. That's what He did today.

For the next two months, our base is hosting 15 DTS students on outreach from Kona, Hawaii.  This team is burning for Jesus and has a heart to see college campuses set ablaze for Jesus. They have come to DC to pour out into the college campuses in the city the truths, love and freedom God has been pouring into them. This week our Washington DC team and this 15-person DTS outreach team from Kona are partnering with InterVarsity Christian Fellowship at George Washington University.  Today our team went to George Washington University, located in DC, and hosted a FREE cook out! We just set up camp and started grilling! We had signs that said:

FREE . . . Salvation is free and so are the burgers!

People flooded in!

As the people came, I asked God want He wanted me to do.  Should I pray for the DTS outreach team and IVers? Should I grill hot dogs? Should I talk to people? As I was praying a team member came up to me and said, "Carole, get out there and talk to people. You are such a people person." I felt that was my answer.

I prayed, "God, who do you want to meet with right now? Whose heart are you drawing to yourself?" As I prayed, a girl sat down with her hamburger, and I felt a connection. I quickly prayed for boldness and for direction of conversation as I approached her. My stomach got knots in it, nervousness and excitement combined, as I asked to sit next to her. Her name was Rachel, and we got into a great conversation about God.  She said that she recently started going back to church and was planning on getting baptized on Sunday.  I was so moved by her willingness to share and by her spiritual eagerness! As we talked, the Holy Spirit reminded me of marriage vows and how that was what she was doing this Sunday. She was saying I DO to Jesus forever!

God put encouraging words in my mouth that flowed naturally into our conversation about how she was committing to Jesus and how excited Jesus was about it! I talked about parallels in this marriage analogy; how Jesus had already committed to her through life or death, health or sickness, and that she was doing the same to Him.  Afterwards, I asked her if she wanted to make that marriage commitment to Jesus now. She said yes. I led her in a prayer committing her life to Jesus and saying I DO in sickness or in health, in good times or in bad, for richer, for poorer! It was a fervent vow to Jesus! Afterwards, she said "Wow! I never knew prayer could be so powerful." Rachel was a different person; a new creation born of the Spirit. She even looked different and could not stop smiling! I got excited and shouted that Rachel just said I DO to Jesus! She laughed and just kept smiling!! Many people from the team came over, hugged her and congratulated her!

Dan and I will go to her baptism this Sunday to love and rejoice with her! I love when our Heavenly Father invites us to go to work in the hearts of people! We receive so much joy when we decide to go!

Here is a picture of Rachel and me at her Baptism!
