Diving into 2012!

Diving into the ocean with our clothes on, flash mob with free ice cream on the beach, and praying for the barrio of St. Theresa as we wrote names of God in the sand on the beach is how we started the year!

For this outreach, Dan and I are responsible for team time, which is when our groups gets together to worship, interceed for the people and towns, process what God is doing and more.  On New Years Eve,  God gave Dan and I crazy ideas to bring in the new year! We reflected on what God had done in the past year and prayed for the beach and the people by writing the name of God that stood out to us this past year! It was so cool to see people walk by and take pictures and search for the next name of God as they walked down the beach!

To finish team time, we prayed about committing to the lessons and plans that God has for us this year! As a symbolic act of saying yes to God and his plans for 2012, we all ran into the ocean and drove into the waves with our clothes on, first the staff team and then the DTS group! 

Later that day we prayed about ministry, and God gave the group an idea to do a flash mob on the busiest part of the beach!  They learned and practiced the dance and we all went to the beach with a bunch of ice cream to pass out for free because God gives free gifts so we wanted to do!

We arrived at the beach and everyone spread out among the people and waited for the music to turn on.  But the electricity plug we were planning on using was out and we had no way to play the music. Sam the guy in our group felt called to ask the biggest party place on the beach that was playing music really loud to play our song so we can do the flash mob!  So a group of students prayed and got the YES from God and stepped out in faith and asked!  The DJ was really cool and said sure and asked all about it.  So on New Year´s Eve, the most popular bar in town played a christain song and supported Jesus to the beach! 

We did the flash mob and drew so many people´s attention! People were taking pictures, video taping and just staring and clapping! Afterward, we were able to share Jesus by passing out free ice cream to people on the beach getting into conversations about why we were giving out free ice cream!  It was an amazing day and amazing testimony of our God!
